SEED: We work with farming communities at the start of the supply chain. We have created a brand new portfolio of products for them to sell their cotton and jute fibers to. We have also generated an extra 24% in income for Fairtrade cotton farmers

STITCH:  All of our workers, are treated under the best ethical conditions, and are proud citizens of Bags of Ethics.

SHOP FLOOR: We have provided effective and fashionable solutions for our clients on their eco bag and green marketing agendas. We have in turn helped reduce plastic bag usage by significant amounts. Our Chairman Dr R Sri Ram in 2003 co-founded The Wings of Hope Children's Charity which provides free education to children in developing countries such as Malawi in Africa and in India.

Our founder Dr. R Sri Ram wanted to have world class facilities in one of the most beautiful regions in the world.

Our factories are some of the most state-of-the-art in India and certainly for the coastal region of Pondicherry, where they are based.

The factory was inaugurated by Sir Richard Stagg, the esteemed British High Commissioner to India.

The factory also won the National Example of Excellence Award given by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales from the United Kingdom.

Our workforce is trained to the highest standards, under the most ethical conditions.

Our goal is to create not just a product which is sustainable, but a self sustaining community who create the product.

90% of our workforce are women, who are trained to the highest standards in the bag making process.

Many of the workers are from underprivileged backgrounds, and working for us, is their only source of income for their entire families.

Business in the Community - National Example of Excellence for Responsible Supply Chain Management

Bags of Ethics in 2009, was presented with the prestigious National Example of Excellence awards from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales in the United Kingdom.

Bags of Ethics showed that it is really possible to have an outstanding model caring for farmers of jute and cotton seed; for workers who stitch the millions of bags which help save the environment; and for clients' shop floors, helping cut down plastic bag consumption:

Bags of Ethics was commended on paying jute and cotton farmers premium fair wages, and for, paying workers (of which 90% are female, of which 60% come from underprivileged backgrounds) more than the garment industry average.

The work with clients such as Tesco (Fresh&Easy) and Vanity Fair was also highly commended.

Grocer Gold Awards - Green Supplier of the Year, finalist

Our company was nominated as Green Supplier of the Year, at the who's who of retailers at the "Grocer Gold Awards" 2009.

The exclusive awards were held at the five star, Dorchester hotel, in London. We were commended for our pioneering eco bag agenda, and interesting product innovations we had made from jute, cotton and other biodegradable fibers. Other companies in this category included Cadbury and Unilever.

British Promotional and Merchandising Association's- Company of the Year, finalist

The fiercely competitive promotional and merchandising industry recognized Bags of Ethics and our facilities as worthy of top three finalist for "Company of the Year".

CURRENT PROJECTS: INDIA, MALAWI, UK

INDIA

• Funding the education of disadvantaged and orphaned children in Chennai, in South India. Plans to build a new school in the region of Pondicherry near the Bags of Ethics factory
• Pondicherry has undergone rapid urbanization over the last few years, and the education system has not been able to keep up with it – therefore we feel it is our responsibility to help in this region
• It costs less than $20 to fund a child’s education in India for an entire month:
• Free schooling, accommodation, books, and food
• Sponsor a child here

MALAWI:

• The Wings of Hope is currently supporting the House of Hope, a support centre for orphaned and vulnerable children whose lives have been affected by HIV and AIDS. 
• The centre caters for children from 3 to 22, providing academic and emotional support and HIV/AIDS awareness via a range of programmes.
• It costs less than $15 to fund a child’s education in Malawi:
• Free schooling, accommodation, books, and food

UK: The Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA)

• The Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA) is a unique social enterprise scheme for students aged 14 to 18. 
• WOHAA is designed to bolster key transferable skills beyond the National Curriculum, and foster a sense of social responsibility. 
• The scheme offers students the opportunity to gain work experience placements within some of the top names in employment, along with the chance to win an all expenses paid trip to visit the Wings of Hope projects in action in India
